In cooperation with the Sumida-ku Tourism Association of Sumida Ward, Tokyo, beacons relaying information about historic sites in and around Ryogoku have been installed along various points of interest, including locations related to “Chushingura”, or the 47 ronin (masterless samurai). When you approach a historic site, a beacon sends a push notification to your smart phone. Use our app and discover the areas hidden history for an enjoyable day out!
What did the 47 ronin see, and what did they feel on their way to raid the Kira residence to avenge their master? Experience history vicariously through our app as you make your way around the area.
*In order to receive the push notifications, it is necessary to launch this app and set up a Bluetooth connection.
*Looking at your smart phone while walking is very dangerous. Please be aware of your surroundings while using this app.
We have also released “Sumida History Walk AR-Camera,” a complementary app to this one. It can be used to take commemorative photos of “real” ronin of Ako. Follow the route of the Chushinguras raid and meet “real” ronin along the way! Please use both apps to enhance your experience of the area.
